According to CNN, militant Islamists captured several major Iraqi cities in recent days and were moving toward Baghdad.
As a result, oil futures have climbed to $106 a barrel, which is the highest price seen since last September.
Analysts predict that if oil prices continue to rise, prices at the pump could jump more than 20 cents in the next couple weeks.
The national average for a gas of regular gas was recorded at $3.65 for a gallon of regular unleaded, this week.
