Grocer Giant Eagle has announced it will close two Toledo-area supermarkets and fuel stations within months.
Stores in Rossford and Toledo, along with their accompanying fuel stations, will close May 3, 2014.
The company said strong competition in the local grocery marketplace was a factor in its decision to close the stores. "Our decision to close these locations was made after careful consideration, particularly given the impact on our Team Members and customers, and after significant efforts to differentiate these stores in the marketplace," said Giant Eagle Spokesperson Dan Donovan.
Giant Eagle opened its Rossford store on Route 20 in 2001, and its West Central Avenue store in 2003.
The company said it is thankful for the loyalty shown by its Team Members and customers for more than a decade.
179 Team Members currently employed at the two stores will be given "fair and equitable serverance," according to the company.
Fuelperks! customers will be able to make qualifying in-store purchases, earn and redeem through May 3.
