General Motors employees in Defiance will face dozens of layoffs by the end of this year.
Several sources have reported that GM will lay off 135 workers, by the end of 2013, at their Defiance casting plant.
An unidentified company spokesperson has confirmed the shift towards fuel-efficient technologies is impacting the demand for iron-casted engine components.
By the end of September, 48 workers are expected to be laid off. The number includes temporary workers whose assignments are already scheduled to end at the end of the month.
The Defiance casting plant has been operating since 1948.
