The Ford Motor Company says 2011 was its second most profitable year in its 109-year history.
It was the biggest profit since 1998.
The boost was from an increase in american sales and a tax credit.
When you exclude that credit, the carmaker actually posted full-year and quarterly earnings that fell short of last year's profit.
The strong results mean that the more than 41,000 members of the United Auto Workers union will get larger profit-sharing payments for 2011.
