'Hearing the Call' mission team finds inspiration in unexpected arrival of child patients
MAPUTO, Mozambique —
The Northwest Ohio Hearing Clinic team was close to wrapping up the third day of its two-week mission trip when a bus full of schoolkids arrived.
A new line formed outside the door to the clinic in Mozambique. The bus had driven for seven hours and was filled with hard-of-hearing and deaf children. The team would not turn them away.
According to the group's supervisor, 11-year-old Dercio was abandoned by his parents at the school because they thought he was born deaf. Doctor Randa Mousour-Shousher from the Hearing Clinic found out that he did in fact have a little hearing and could be helped.
But it didn't end there. After hearing music for the very first time, Dercio returned a gift to the team. He started to move and dance, inspiring everyone around him.
After three days, the group has seen more than 340 patients and fitted over 175 hearing devices.
You too can give the gift of hearing on the Entheos Hearing Connection's website.
