A Toledo couple is safe after escaping an early New Year's Day house fire.
The fire broke out just before 2:30 a.m. at a home in the 2700-block of Bryn Mawr, near the Toledo Hospital, in west Toledo.
Fire officials said two people were sleeping inside the home at the time of the blaze. A man climbed out of a second-story window and jumped to the ground, escaping the flames. He then retrieved a ladder and went back inside the second-floor window to rescue his wife.
No injuries were reported.
Officials have not said what caused the fire.
