The Sylvania Community Action Team held a town hall meeting Wednesday night. The topic was on heroin and prescription drug abuse and the message was simple, stay away from it.
"I don't want to see any parent, I don't want to see any child go through what I went through," explained Larry Vorderburg.
He knows first hand how drug use negatively affects the family. He shared stories of his daughter's struggle battling heroin and the impact it had on his family.
Vorderburg said for years he and his wife ignored their daughter's problem, not wanting to hurt their grandchildren. Eventually, they had their daughter arrested seeing it as the only option for help.
But when it comes to addiction, Vorderburg knows both sides of the problem. He's also battled addiction. For a brief time, he struggled with prescription drug abuse.
The town hall meeting also featured resources for people to find help with addictions and tips on how to properly discard of unused prescription drugs.
