Toledo, OH. (WNWO)--

A memorial highway will now commemorate two fallen firefighters slain in 2014.

The Toledo Firefighters Memorial Highway will be marked at Nebraska avenue and Monroe street on I-75 south in downtown Toledo.

This stretch of highway honors firefighters James Dickman and Stephen Machcinski.

The two men were killed after battling a fire that was intentionally set January 26th 2014

It took about a year and a half to get all the paperwork together to pass Bill 134 , but firefighters say it was worth it to honor the men.

"We recognize that we lost two of our brothers back then and maybe it will make people think about what fire and police do out there," said firefighter Keith Szenderski.

The family of the firefighters were also given ceremonial signage.

The highway signage is expected to go up within the next few months.
