Hockey tournament expected to have $500,000 impact

The Huntington Center in downtown Toledo will be the venue for the NCAA Regional Hockey Tournament this Saturday and Sunday. The semi-final contests on Saturday will pit Notre Dame against Saint Cloud State at 1:30 p.m. and Miami against Minnesota State at 5 p.m. The winners will face off against each other for the title at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Tony Vetter, Director of Sales at Destination Toledo, says this was the third time Toledo submitted a bid to host this tournament. "Revenue from direct sales will generate about $500,000 in revenue," Mr. Vetter said.

Restaurants in walking distance to the arena are anticipating extra customers this weekend. Jordan Hunyor is manager of Pizza Papalis Taverna. "We've hired extra people and we've got extra beer and extra food; Saturday is going to be crazy and Sunday is going to be pretty good," Mr. Hunyor said.

Tickets cost $75 and there are some still available.
