Homeless Monroe Co. teen arrested in attempted kidnapping

An 18-year-old homeless man has been arrested in connection with the attempted kidnapping of a seven-year-old Monroe boy. The suspect, Devin Turner, was arrested Sunday morning sleeping in a tent.

Monroe County Sheriff's deputies say that the attempt happened Saturday afternoon in a wooded lot in Monroe Township. Detectives say the kidnapping was prevented when a 14-year-old boy saw the suspect trying to drag the victim into the woods. The 14-year-old raced to help the younger boy, pushed the suspect, and fled with the victim along with a group of other boys.

The group told their parents, who reported the kidnapping attempt to authorities.

An initial search failed to locate the suspect. Devin Turner was arrested the following morning. Monroe Co. Detective Jeff Smith and Deputy Dave Raymond are asking anyone with information to call 734-240-7530 or 734-240-7548.
