The City of Toledo is looking for a few good officers, and so far, hundreds have thrown their hats into the ring.
The Toledo Police Department will offer a civil service examination in late August in order to fill the next class of recruits. Approximately 800 men and women have applied, in just three days, to take the exam, according to the mayor's spokesperson, Jen Sorgenfrei.
City officials say they expect a large number of applicants before the Aug. 6 deadline, mainly due to the poor economy.
Recruits who apply by the deadline will take the civil service exam on Aug. 22. Any recruit selected after that date will begin training in 2011 or after.
Interested applicants who live in the Toledo-area must apply in person at One Goverment Center in downtown Toledo. For those who live 20-miles or more outside city limits, someone may apply in person for you or you can send an email to Toledo.email@example.com asking for an application with the words "Police Officer Application" in the subject line.
