Ice growth on Lake Erie forces jam to flow inland
Port Clinton, OH (WNWO)-- —
Residents of Port Clinton have been documenting this winter's Ice Jam more frequently this week.
An ice jam or 'Ice Shove' is often a result of fluctuating temperatures and a deep freeze followed immediately by a period of melting.
According to the National Weather Service, an on-shore ice push can be caused by wind and water currents, influenced by that change in temperature.
You may remember a similar situation that caused Sidecut Metropark to be inundated with ice during the winter of 2014.
