Jazz fills the air in Grand Rapids

People from across Northwest Ohio flocked to Grand Rapids Sunday to hear some jazz and appreciate some local art.

Five local bands performed at the Sunset Jazz and Arts Fest. As music filled the air, artists lined up along the Maumee River to showcase their work.

The free event was coordinated by the Grand Rapids Arts Council. This is the 10th year for the fest.

â??It was born with a couple community members that wanted to bring jazz and music on the towpath in the evening,â?? Grand Rapids Arts Council Vice President Rita Foos said. â??They had this vision and itâ??s just kind of grown up since then.â??

Music director Tim Tiderman says he doesnâ??t have to look very far to find the musicians. The organ player says nothing beats jamming with his friends.

â??I donâ??t see any reason to go outside Toledo, Northwest Ohio, to find musicians,â?? Tiderman said. â??There are some spectacular musicians.â??

Donations and drink sales helped fund the event. A local Boy Scouts troop also raised money by selling food.
