Judge: Mom not guilty in crash that killed twin infants

Lori Massingill is due back in court June 26.

BOWLING GREEN -- A Michigan mother has been found not guilty by reason of insanity in a car crash that killed her twin infants.

A Wood County Common Pleas judge ruled Wednesday that 39-year-old Lori Massingill of Ida, Michigan, was suffering from acute psychotic mental illness when the crash occurred last November.

Ohio State Highway Patrol said she drove over the railroad tracks traveling nearly 100 mph on Fostoria Road near SR-163 in Troy Township. The vehicle went airborne before striking a ditch and rolling twice.

The twins who were riding in the back seat in car seats died just two days apart after the crash.

The judge on Wednesday said Massingill had a history of psychiatric hospitalizations.

Massingill is due back in court June 26.
