Kids in the Kitchen

There was a whole lot of kids dancing in the kitchen

Local families were able to learn about healthy living at the Kids in the Kitchen event, which was held at the Seagate Centre in downtown Toledo.

Around 500 children attended Kids in the Kitchen. They took part in exercise demonstrations and hands-on cooking classes, while being exposed to fruits and vegetables.

Sara Bowen, Kids in the Kitchen Chair for 2012, comments on what she hopes the kids will learn.

"Kids will get tons of different things out of this, some kids who are already familiar with exercise, will learn new things about exercising. Some kids do not have that as a part of their day will get ideas on how to start their day with a little movement."

Kids in the Kitchen was initiated by the Junior League, a womenâ??s volunteer training organization.

Anne Ruggiero, president of the Junior League, commented about the focus of the Junior League.

Ruggiero said, "The Junior Leagueâ?¦this year and for the last several years has been trying to help combat childhood obesity through events like this. We are able to help educate not only the children, but the parents as well."

Children who participated, were able to earn raffle tickets to win raffle prizes, such as bikes, digital cameras and basketballs.
