There is no shortage of purring going on at the Maumee Valley Save a Pet today. And thatâ??s because the felines at the shelter have a new place to hang out. Thanks to the support of longtime friends of the shelter the cats can now enjoy their new Kitty Cabana. A 400 square foot enclosed playroom outside were the cats can get fresh air and sunshine.
The outside area has benches for cats and humans to sit and visit along with climbing areas for the cats. Lisa McKenzie the shelter manager says that the cats are waiting at the door in the morning to get outside to their new play area. And that up to a dozen cats and even a few small dogs use the Cabana.
McKenzie told us that the cats seem calmer when they are outside and seem to socialize better, she also says â??They enjoy it outside so much and it helps stimulate them and keep them calm.â?? The Kitty Cabana cost about $5000 and was built by local carpenter Robert Zeigler who has done similar enclosures for private residents.
