Laborers gathered at Toledoâ??s Teamsters Local 20 hall on Monday to honor those who have suffered and died on the job.

â??Safe Jobs Save Livesâ?? was the theme for this yearâ??s annual Workers Memorial Day. Lucas County leaders presented a proclamation that symbolically renews the fight to make workplaces safe.

Al Jones, who attended the event, was severely injured on the job when his hand got caught in a concrete auger in 2012.

â??It just happened, an accident where I got my hand caught in there,â?? said Jones. He continued, â??Had there been some safety issues in place where people were where they were supposed to be and it was enforced, this would have never happened.â??

The crowd also lit candles to honor those in the Toledo-area who have died on the job.
