'Lights Before Christmas' starts at Toledo Zoo

The Toledo Zoo starts its holiday season celebrations Friday with the lighting ceremony of its 85-foot tall tree.

The Zoo's Norway spruce tree, will get its chance to shine at 6 p.m. The "Big Tree," adorned with more than 35,000 energy- saving LED lights, will remain lit through Dec. 31.

Visitors can visit more than 200 illuminated animal pictures and ice carvings on scheduled evenings. They can also visit the Taylor Automotive Family sponsored outdoor rink, included with regular admission to the zoo.

Children and their families can step inside a "bigger-than-life" snow globe.

Toledo Zoo members get unlimited free Monday to Thursday visits to the Lights Before Christmas and a free weekend visit.

The Lights Before Christmas will close on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve night, and Christmas Day.
