Sgt. Joseph Chavalia, the officer involved in a fatal SWAT shooting in Lima earlier this year has passed a fitness-for-duty examination and will return to Lima Police force Monday, Nov. 11.
The Lima Police Department says Chavalia will be assigned two tasks which best utilize his organizational skills and ideas. The tasks include a redlight camera project and organizational issues surrounding the department's property room.
Sgt. Chavalia was cleared by a Lima jury in early August after being handed criminal charges in the January 2007 shooting death of Tarika Wilson. Lima Police officers had been looking for Wilson's boyfriend, a suspected drug dealer, when she was fatally shot.
