A homicide case runs cold for the killing of an elderly man outside a pool hall in Lima.
The shooting happened outside the front door of Sportz and Sortz pool hall on St. John's Avenue. 69-year-old Cardell Beachum was shot in the chest July 2, 2001. Lima Police have been investigating it as an attempted robbery, but the case never received people who witnessed the crime.
"Our investigators interviewed numerous people in connection with this case, but no witnesses ever came forward," said Lima Police Detective Sean Neidemire. "We do believe that someone saw this crime and we hope that they are now willing to speak up and help close this case."
Attorney General DeWine is asking for any leads on this crime.
"It can sometimes be frightening for a witness to come forward and report seeing such a violent crime, but we urge those with information on any crime to do the right thing and call police," said Attorney General DeWine.
The crime has been filed in the AG's Ohio Unsolved Homicides Initiative that has statewide database of the approximately 5,000 unsolved killings in the state. Law enforcement agencies submitted about 1,400 unsolved homicide cases to the public database.
Anyone with information on this crime should contact the Lima Police Department at 419-227-4444.
Those with information on this or any other unsolved homicide can also contact the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) at 855-BCI-OHIO or submit a tip through the Ohio Attorney General's website.
