Linebacker accused of assaulting UT band member back in court

Jamaal Bass, 20, is charged with misdemeanor assault for knocking over a UT marching band member.

Half a year after a University of Toledo marching band member was injured as a rival team took the field, the suspended Northern Illinois University player charged in the incident will appear in court on Wednesday.

Jamaal Bass, 20, faces a misdemeanor assault charge for knocking over the band member as he was running onto the field during a game at the Glass Bowl last November.

Video of the incident, which appears to show Bass jumping shoulder-first into the face of the band member, lead to his suspension and an apology from NIU Coach Dave Deren.

Bass was indicted on the charges last month, to which he pleaded not guilty.

If convicted, he could face up to nine years in prison.
