An Erie County couple is behind bars charged with leaving their two month old daughter home alone while they went out begging for money at a Sandusky bar.
Police say 29-year-old Maurice Bonton and 20-year-old Kimberly Whitcomb were arrested at Daly's Bar on January 13 around 11:45pm. They were taken to the Erie County Jail and held without bond because of previous panhandling convictions.
But investigators say it wasn't 4:30pm in the afternoon the next day that Whitcomb told corrections officers to check on her infant daughter. When officers arrived at the couple's Perry Street apartment, they found the child crying in a car seat. Her diaper soiled. The girl was taken to the hospital where she was checked out.
The baby is now in the custody of child welfare workers.
The couple is facing child endangerment charges.
