Officials with the Catholic Diocese of Toledo are asking for the public's help identifying who vandalized a statue of the Virgin Mary.
They say the large outdoor statue located in a garden behind Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral on Collingwood Blvd. was damaged and broken off its stone base.
It's believed that the solid marble statue was damaged sometime between June 2nd and 3rd.
The task couldn??t have been easy since the statue stands five feet tall and weighs in excess of 600 pounds.
They believe another heavy object was used to disfigure Mary??s face and hands before being toppled over.
The cost of the damages is not yet known.
??Looking at the image of the Mother of God prostrate in the dirt amid broken pieces brings sorrow to the soul,?? Bishop Leonard Blair said.
If you have any information regarding the vandalism, you are asked to contact the Rosary Cathedral parish office at 419-244-9575.
