Local taxpayers to hold modern day 'tea parties'

It's Tax Day and local tax paying demonstrators will be holding modern day tea parties around Northwest Ohio.

A "tea party" will be held at International Park to protest what taxpayers say is wasteful and inappropriate spending of tax dollars.

The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the downtown Toledo park. Congressman Bob Latta will be the keynote speaker. There will also be prizes for best patriotic costume and best protest sign.

Taxpayers in Fulton County will hold their own "tea party" Wednesday. That event will be from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Fulton County Courthouse in downtown Wauseon.

In Tiffin, taxpayers will protest in front of the Seneca County Courthouse at 6:30 p.m.

The next generation of taxpayers also plans to speak out Wednesday. Perrysburg students plan to dress in period costumes of the original Boston Tea Party to attend T.E.A. Party at Hood Park at 7:00 p.m. Students say they are speaking out because they don't want their future earnings overly taxed.
