Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania was buzzing with activity as LPGA players from around the globe arrived for the 28th Marathon Classic. This is the first year that Toledo icon Jamie Farr will not sponsor the tournament. Earlier this year Farr informed the LPGA Tour that his show business commitments would not allow him to host the tournament in the future. Kelly Theiser is the Manager of Tour Media for the LPGA Tour. "The tournament had been previously known as the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic but we now have title sponsor, Marathon and this will give us firm footing going forward," Ms. Thesier said.
144 players are scheduled to compete in the tournament which starts on Thursday. The purse is $1.3 million with $195,000 going to the winner. So Yeon Ryu of South Korea is the defending champion. Since 1984 the Marathon Classic has contributed more than $7.7 Million to local children's charities.
