Leaders in Lucas County are speaking out in an effort to achieve equality in Ohio's marriage laws for same-sex couples.
Lucas County Commissioners Pete Gerken, Carol Contrada, and Tina Skeldon Wozniak introduced a resolution on Tuesday in support of the Why Marriage Matters Ohio campaign.
The state campaign sets out to educate Ohioans about why same-sex couples should be allowed to marry in Ohio and receive the same legal, economic, and social benefits of marriage as other Ohioans.
'Lucas County prides itself on its inclusiveness, having been one of the first cities in the region to have a domestic partnership registry, and is committed to continued social progress that builds on the great diversity of our community," commissioners wrote in a statement.
Commissioners were joined Tuesday by Toledo City Council members Steve Steel and Lindsay Webb, along with Why Marriage Matters Ohio Campaign Manager Michael Premo.
