The first flu-related deaths of the year have been recorded in Lucas County with one of those death being tied to H1N1.
The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department said Friday that two Toledo-area people have died within the last two weeks at a Toledo hospital.
The county has seen nearly four dozen cases of flu treated at area hospitals since late 2012, with an increase in cases over the past few weeks.
Health officials believe the man died as a result of a flu virus with the H1N1 strain. They have also said that the strain has led to severe complications for all age groups in Ohio and Lucas County, not just the traditional high-risk groups.
A limited number of flu vaccinations are available at the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department for individuals who have yet to receive one this season. All age groups are encouraged to receive a vaccination.
