Man charged in Port Clinton HS bomb hoax, nearby robbery

Alexander F. Fletcher currently behind bars in the Ottawa County Detention facility.

Officials have a man in custody in connection to last week's Port Clinton High School bomb hoax and a nearby robbery.

The Port Clinton Police Department arrested Alexander F. Fletcher on charges of aggravated robbery.

Port Clinton Police Chief Robert Hickman said investigators made the link between the crimes after discovering both happened around the same time

The high school issued a lockdown on all of its schools Tuesday after receiving a bogus bomb threat around 9:30 a.m. Meantime, less than two miles away, surveillance cameras from Mikey's Smoke Shop captured a robbery.

Police allege Fletcher fled the store with nearly $600 and cartons of cigarettes; hours later, officials determined the bomb threat was a hoax.

They are also looking into the possibility that more than one person was involved.

Fletcher is currently behind bars at the Ottawa County Detention facility until his arraignment.

The case regarding the bomb hoax will be presented to the Ottawa County Grand Jury next week.
