Man gets community service in Ohio bicyclist death

An Ohio motorist will serve six days of community service in a crash that killed a woman bicycling in a cancer charity event.

Ervin Blackston, 58, of Rockbridge entered a no contest plea to vehicular manslaughter on Monday and was found guilty of the misdemeanor by a Hocking County judge. The judge sentenced Blackston to 90 days in jail but allowed him to perform the community service instead, unless he violates terms of a one-year community control.

The Aug. 21 crash in southern Ohio killed Michelle Kazlausky, 57, of suburban Columbus. The Logan Daily News reports a deputy said Blackston ran over Kazlausky after he'd been signaled to stop his truck. Authorities have said a brake on the pickup failed.

Blackston's lawyer told The Columbus Dispatch his client has tremendous regret and remorse.
