Man's 50-mile Christmas run aids boy with leukemia
Thu, 26 Dec 2013 09:56:26 GMT — DeWITT, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan has run for 11 hours as a Christmas fundraiser for a boy with leukemia. Forty-six-year-old Jason Evans started at 6 a.m. Wednesday running loops around the Lansing-area community of DeWitt. The Lansing State Journal reports that he met his goal of covering at least 50 miles on behalf of Josiah Lake. Josiah was diagnosed with the disease four years ago and found out last month that he's had a relapse. The Eaton Rapids fifth-grader faces another round of chemotherapy before having bone marrow transplant surgery in January or February. Evans is a friend of the Lake family and says he hopes the money he raises will help the family defray some of the surgery-related costs not covered by insurance. He says he's raised at least $4,500.(Copyright 2013 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
