      Man's body, wheel chair pulled from pond at Perrysburg assisted living home

      The body of a 94-year-old man and his wheel chair were pulled from a pond at a Perrysburg assisted living facility Thursday morning.

      PERRYSBURG, Ohio -- The body of a 94-year-old man and his wheel chair were pulled from a pond at a Perrysburg assisted living facility Thursday morning.

      John C. Voland was a resident at St. Clare Commons, 12469 Five Point Road. Perrysburg Police said officers found the facility's staff members attempting to remove Voland's unresponsive body from the water around 7 a.m.

      Emergency personnel were able to recover Voland's body. His motorized wheel chair was also pulled from the water. He was pronounced dead at 7:25 a.m.

      An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Wood County Coroner's Office and Perrysburg Police.

      The facility released a statement Thursday in response to the incident: "We at St. Clare Commons extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family of the resident who passed away earlier this morning at our facility. He will be greatly missed. We are cooperating with local officials as they continue their investigation. St. Clare Commons is committed to making sure our residents are safe and secure. We are continuously evaluating our residents and care plans to make sure every person is taken care of according to their individual needs. Our prayers are with this resident??s family and friends as we mourn this great loss."
