The unemployment rate in Lucas County dropped last month to 7.3% down from 7.6% in September. In Toledo the jobless rate dropped to 8%. Despite the improving economy in Northwest Ohio, thousands of people are still unemployed and some people are approaching their second or third straight holiday season jobless. Darrel Kizer of Toledo has been out of work for over two years. "I am steady looking for a job and my unemployment benefits have run out for some time now," Mr. Kizer said.
Toledoan Michael Huggins has been out of work for over a year. He spends several hours a week at The Source getting career counseling. "I have been tweaking my resume over and over hoping for that one phone call," Mr. Huggins said.
