The property has been identified as the home of St . Mark's Baptist Church and according to its website is "a local Bible believing assembly Sanctioned by God, Commissioned by Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit".

The church was founded in 1955 by Pastor I.J. Johnson who is still the senior pastor there.

Its unclear at this point if anyone was inside the church when the fire started but the church is usually closed on Friday.

The fire is also too extensive, as of 3:30 p.m., for firefighters to fight the flames from inside the church and they were focusing their efforts on making sure the blaze did not spread to neighboring buildings.

Fire officials say the building was consumed by flames when they arrived.

A ProMedica employee took a picture of the smoke from Toledo Hospital saying that workers could see the fire from their location.

No injuries were reported.
