Three hotels in Maumee are lifting the spirits of people visiting loved ones who are ill, by treating them to a complimentary overnight stay on Christmas Eve.
National hotel chain, TMI Hospitality, began the "Room in the Inn" program in 1988 to help people visiting friends or family who are in the hospital or treatment centers. Maumee's Fairfield Inn, Country Inn & Suites, and Homewood Suites, is each offering a free room to guests visiting the Toledo area.
"One of our partners back in the day, he had a family member that was real ill during the holidays and that was kind of the start-up for this," said Brian Dymarkowski, Assistant General Manager of Homewood Suites by Hilton. He continued, "When he got the company going he decided he wanted to give back a little bit."
The hotels boarded four families in 2012, one on Thanksgiving and three on Christmas Eve. TMI Hospitality found families to help by reaching out to guests during the fall, asking what brings them to Lucas County during the holidays.
