Columbia Gas outlined plans Wednesday for a once-in-a-generation infrastructure upgrade for Maumee and Perrysburg.
A nearly one-mile long natural gas pipeline will run under the Maumee River.
Columbia Gas officials said the $7.5 million project is expected to be complete by October with minimal disturbance. "We shouldn't interrupt anyone's gas service for this project," said spokesperson Chris Kozak. "We are just going to be on a handful of customers' property, which makes this project unique."
Also pledged by the company, a promise to keep an eye out for any historical artifacts found by crews as the pipeline is laid. Columbia Gas said they will have an archaeologist on aite to ensure that any artifacts found are preserved and shared with the community.
Once completed the line will replace a 12-inch-wide bare steel pipeline that was installed in the 1940s.
