eijer plans to hire thousands of new team members, including 1,700 in Ohio.

The grocer says it is bulking up staffing due to new store openings and to prepare for the busy holiday shopping season.

Open positions include everything from cashiers and stockers to meat cutters and cake decorators. Many of these entry-level jobs can grow into full-time, leadership positions, according to the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer.

"While most of these opportunities are part time and seasonal, these jobs can provide a gateway to a full-time career at Meijer," said Michael Rotelle, senior vice president of human resources. "As we continue to grow, we are frequently looking to fill our on-going part-time and full-time needs. These positions provide an opportunity for people to begin a retail career within a growing company."

Michigan stores will be looking to hire 4,800 workers.

Anyone interested in applying may complete an online application or apply at employment kiosks at the front of most Meijer stores. Meijer's website also offers the opportunity to search for openings across the region.

"Meijer is always looking for good people," Janet Emerson, executive vice president of operations said. "Our continued growth provides a great opportunity to find new team members who will help deliver on the Meijer promise of providing exceptional customer service."
