Monroe County authorities have apprehended a man who snatched a purse and almost ran a woman over while trying to flee.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Matthew Edward Siders, followed the female victim from Hi-Lite Grocery Store to the parking lot, where he accosted her and grabbed her purse.
Siders got into a mid-90s maroon pick up truck and attempted to leave the scene when a woman witness stepped in front of the vehicle. The suspect stepped on the gas and drove at the witness, who took evasive action to avoid being struck.
Around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, the robbery victim told authorities she was contacted by Cashland personnel who told her a male subject was attempting to cash a check from her checking account.
Deputy David Buchko and Detective Jeffrey Smith responded to Cashland and took the suspect into custody without incident. Siders is currently lodged in the Monroe County Jail on the charges of theft, assault with a dangerous weapon and uttering and publishing. He is being held on a $75,000 bond.
