Missing Ottawa Hills boy found safe

      Ronald Root, 4

Police in Ottawa Hills issued an Amber Alert Tuesday for a 4-year-old boy believed to have been abducted by his non-custodial mother Monday evening.

Ronald Root, 4, was found safe in a suburb Detroit late Tuesday afternoon. He had last been seen with his mother Katrina (Jones) Root at 6:00 p.m. Monday at 2409 Orchard Rd.

Family says Katrina is delusional and suffers from bipolar disorder. They became concerned that the child could be in danger and be harmed by his mother as she has not taken her psychotropic medications. They believed her to be a threat to herself and her child. She has threatened harm in the past.

Katrina was believed to be headed to either Chicago or North Carolina with her son in tow. Authorities say the suspect ran out of gas near Madison Heights, Mich. Tuesday. She called her ex-husband, who in turn called Ottawa Hills Police. She is being held in the Oakland County jail.
