Monroe school bus crash injures five children, driver

A Monroe Public Schools bus was involved in a crash Thursday morning sending five students and the bus driver to a hospital with minor injuries.

According to the school district, bus No. 14 collided with a passenger car around 8:30 a.m. in the Frenchmen's Bend sibdivision. The crash occurred on St. Anne Dr., east of Ave de Lafayette, as it was picking up elementary students on their way to Manor Elementary School.

Five students at the bus driver suffered minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. 21 other children on the bus at the time of the crash were not hurt. Those students were taken to Manor Elementary to be reunited with her parents.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by Monroe Police.
