Morning drivers could see closures due to fallen firefighter procession

Drivers could expect some road closures Friday due to a funeral procession for a Toledo firefighter.

Sylvania Township Police are alerting drivers traveling between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Friday to be aware of some possible road closures.

Officials said, on Thursday, that Eastbound Sylvania Avenue between Holland-Sylvania and Corey may be shut down because of a large funeral procession.

Police are expecting a number of fire trucks and personal vehicles to take part in motorcade from Walker Funeral Home on Sylvania to a church in Sandusky.

The procession was organized as part of a tribute to honor two Toledo firefighters killed in the line of duty.

Funeral services for both men, Private Stephen Machcinski and Private James Dickman, will be held at Walker Funeral Homes on Sylvania.

Pvt. Dickman's services:

On Friday, those attending Pvt. Dickman's services will gather at Walker Funeral Home on Sylvania at 7:30 am.

They will then driver together to Sandusky for visitation and funeral services organized for Pvt. Dickman.

Members of the public that would like to drive with the group to Sandusky for Pvt. Dickman's visitation and funeral are asked to gather on the Sylvania side of the Franklin Park mall.

Pvt. Machcinski's services:

Later in the day, visitation for Pvt. Machcinski's family and friends will be held at Walker Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Machcinski's funeral will take place at the same location on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

Drivers can then join in following the last fire rig in the procession.

Procession Route:

- East on Sylvania Ave

- South on Monroe towards Downtown

- Right on Summit St

- Left over the High Level Bridge at Clayton St

- Continue onto Woodville Road

- Left on Navarre - Continue on OH-2 for 51 miles

- Turn onto US 250 / Sandusky / Norwalk exit 8

- Right onto Milan Road (US 250)

- Left onto East Bogart Road (CR 10)

- Left onto Galloway Road.
