Mother killed in crash with semi, 7-year-old daughter hospitalized

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that killed a Willard woman and injured her daughter on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 11 a.m. at the intersection of US 224 at SR 587 in Seneca County's Loudon Township.

Investigators say 38-year-old Victoria McKelvey ran a stop sign, in her 2003 Pontiac Vibe, and collided with a Semi Truck driven by 34-year-old Bryan Hughes of Oak Harbor.

Officials say that McKelvey was not wearing her seatbelt at the time and was ejected from her vehicle.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her daughter, Electa McKelvey, was in booster seat in the rear of the vehicle but it was not secured properly at the time of the crash.

The 7-year-old had to be taken by Life Flight to Toledo Saint Vincentâ??s Hospital with unknown injuries.

It is unclear if Hughes suffered any injuries.

US 224 was closed for approximately 3 hours while emergency responders were on scene and a detour was set up by ODOT.
