Tue, 04 Jun 2013 18:40:58 GMT —
The return of the Moving Wall will disrupt traffic in Toledo Wednesday as the city kicks off its Vietnam Era Veterans Appreciation Event.
A model of the Washington Vietnam Veterans Memorial, last on display in Toledo in 2005, will arrive at Toledo Express Airport Wednesday afternoon. The smaller replica will be displayed at International Park through the weekend.
According to Toledo Police, up to 1,000 motorcycles and various law enforcement agencies will be involved in an escort of the moving wall from Toledo Express to International Park on Wednesday afternoon. The route will run from Airport Highway to Eber Rd., US 20A to Ford St. in Maumee. The escort will proceed down the Anthony Wayne Trail (US 24) and into downtown Toledo along Erie St. From there it will move along Cherry St, across the Martin Luther King Bridge and into International Park.
The escort of the wall is expected to affect traffic from 3 - 4 p.m. Traffic anywhere along the route may be tied up from to 10 - 20 minutes, according to Toledo Police.
As part of the event, a "Welcome Home Celebration and Honor Roll Call" will be held at the University of Toledo's Savage Arena, Wednesday at 7 p.m. A salute to Latino veterans will take place during this weekend's Midwest LatinoFest, Saturday beginning at 5 p.m. at Promenade Park. All Latino veterans are encouraged to attend.
WNWO's own Angi Gonzalez will MC this year's MidWest LatinoFest, being held from Noon to 11 p.m. Saturday.
