Neighborhood on edge following attempted child abduction

According to dispatchers, a man approached a female juvenile in an alley, opened his door and grabbed her arm. The girl pulled away.

Northwood, Ohio (WNWO) Police in Wood County are searching for a young man who may have tried to kidnap a girl Thursday night near Brentwood Park.

It happened around 8:15 near Ware Street and West Andrus Road.

Now people in that neighborhood are voicing shock and concern.

"That is crazy, I have grandkids over here," said John Roughton who lives nearby. "It's unbelievable that this could even happen in this neighborhood. My grandkids are here all the time. This is nuts."

According to dispatchers, a man approached a female juvenile in an alley, opened his door and grabbed her arm. The girl pulled away.

So far, there have been no other reports of kidnapping attempts or suspicious activity. Families we spoke with say that's not necessarily comforting.

"It's scary," said Kehly Amesquita. "We walk there almost every day for our evening walk. It's scary that it could happen so close to home. When we go to that park, I let the kids run around, but I'll definitely keep a closer eye on them."

Roughton is using this as an opportunity to teach his grandkids a lesson.

"I've been talking to them, but they're so little. We're going to watch them a lot closer, I can tell you that. They will know about stranger danger. You gotta teach kids about it, there's too many weirdos out here nowadays. It's crazy. It's unbelievable it can happen here in Northwood."

Police are encouraging parents to be a little bit more observant and aware of your surroundings.

They're still looking for a young white man, driving a black Dodge truck with white stripes on the sides.

If you know anything about this, call Northwood police.
