The leadership of Lake Local Schools unveiled the design of the new Lake High School during a press conference in Millbury on Wednesday.
The old high school was destroyed by the June 5 tornado.
The Collaborative of Toledo has been selected as the bridging architect for the project. Dan Tabor, architect with the Collaborative, says the new building will capture people's attention the moment they walk in the front door. "There is a two story atrium and hopefully when people come into the building they will go wow, look at this space," Mr. Tabor said.
The projected cost of the new school is between $25-$25.5 million. The district has $19.1M from an insurance payout, $4.5M from the Ohio School Facilities Commission and $500,000 from winning the Kohl's Cares contest. The district hopes to secure the remaining $1M from an operating levy request.
Seven trees will be planted in the parking lot between the middle and high school in memory of the seven people who died from injuries sustained in the June 5 tornado.
