The first day of school for TPS students is Thursday, August 26 and there will be big changes for students this year.
One of the big ones is that there will be no crossing guards to help students naviagte busy intersections. The district was forced to eliminate crossing guards in its effort to balance the budget, and was able to save $250,000 by doing so.
School Board President Bob Vasquez expressed some hope that recently released federal stimulus dollars will trickle down to Toledo. "The crossing guards and the transportation are a top priority and we have just been notified that there are some federal stimulus money coming our way and we are trying to see what the guidelines are for that money," Mr. Vasquez said.
