Northeast October Snow Historic

Northwest Ohio & Southeast Michigan had to deal with a few sleet pellets Saturday with the rain showers. But nothing compared to what the East coast from Virginia up to New England had to deal with. A rare October snow event they are calling it as a powerful nor easter moves up the east coast.
Some locations west of the big cites of New York, Boston and Philadelphia saw up over a foot of snow. Strong winds over 30 mph have put 2 million people in the dark according to the weather channel and weather.com
When it is all said and done by Sunday morning. New York City could get up to 10 inches of snow according to the National Weather Service.
How rare is this snow? According to the weather channel the average first snow does not hit the big cites until December. There has been some October snow events. But they are few and far between. Last October snowfall in New York city was trace of snow in October of 1952.
