Northwood wastewater equalization project now finished

One of the largest wastewater projects in Wood County has been completed.

Its job is to control the amount of rainwater entering the treatment system in Oregon, protecting Lake Erie by reducing sewer overflows.

"We're still possibly going to have issues with basements and overflow because we can't design for every event," said Northwestern Water and Sewer District Manager of Engineering Thomas Stalter. "But it should reduce that and make a big difference in the long term."

The $5.8 million basin is located between Williston Road and Curtice Road.
