      Ohio environmentalists plan fracking protest

A natural gas drilling rig in Wyoming.

An environmental coalition opposed to a new method of drilling for natural resources plans to protest as lawmakers return to the Statehouse Tuesday.

No Frack Ohio is calling for a statewide ban on what's called fracking, a process that blasts pressurized water, sand andchemicals underground to release gas and oil reserves. The group also wants a ban on deep injection wells that hold drillingwastewater.

Gov. John Kasich has halted wastewater injection at a Youngstown well and four nearby after 11 earthquakes hit the areathis year. However, he says he doesn't want issues involving wastewater disposal to slow the Ohio jobs promised by oil and gasdrilling in the state.

State officials note dozens of similar injection wells have operated around Ohio for decades without problems.
