Ohio State University officials say they want walkers only on its iconic Oval. For safety's sake, the university is encouraging students and others to stay off bicycles and skateboards on the sprawling Oval on the Columbus campus. The Columbus Dispatch reports that Ohio State is launching an information campaign on April 17 to make sure students understand traffic-safety rules and keep the Oval pedestrian friendly. Signs posted around the Oval's perimeter will declare it a "walk zone." Ohio State spokeswoman Lindsay Komlanc said campus police will begin citing students in the fall if they don't comply. The walk zone was among recommendations by a university task force created after a series of pedestrian, bicycle and motor-vehicle crashes during the fall semester last year.
