The Ohio Turnpike Commission announced that 2011 was a safe year for motorists.
Ohio Turnpike traffic related deaths were down to only six fatalities, which matches the lowest record from 1955. The turnpike has since seen an increased in the number of vehicles on the road from 4.9 million in 1955 to 49.2 million in 2011.
â??The Commission continues to work diligently with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and while we strive for a fatality-free safety record every year, the Commission is encouraged by this report,â?? Executive Director Rick Hodges said.
Hodges also credits the improved safety to the increased 70mph speed limit for all vehicles adopted by the Commission in 2011.
